Hot on the heels of the ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ announcement, Olivia Rodrigo has released her first single for OR3.

Three years on from her second studio album ‘GUTS,’ Olivia Rodrigo has announced the release of OR3. In a series of cryptic Instagram posts uploaded to her recently cleared feed, the Driver’s Licence singer showcased a new era of lovesick melancholy and teenage desire under a much lighter pink-tinged aesthetic.
Her first post, uploaded on the 2nd of April 2026, has a caption reading: “my third album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is out June 12th. I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to her hear it. Available for preorder now!” The caption is accompanied by the new album cover, featuring the singer on a swing set in a gravity-defying position and wearing a vintage-inspired babydoll micro dress underneath a parental advisory sticker.
Rodrigo has since uploaded many more mysterious posts to her feed, including four videos of a pink heart-shaped lock and two unassuming videos with phrases that we now know to be lyrics.
Talking about the album’s themes in an interview with the Daily Star in 2025, Rodrigo said: “As I just grow as a person, and I learn more about music, and I have different perspectives, it’s impossible for that not to be reflected in songwriting.
“Hopefully, by the time I put out my next album, it’ll feel more mature and like a different take on things. I think that’s what’s so fun about writing songs, is you get to keep pushing yourself and learning and growing and expanding.”
She also reflected on the themes even more in a promotional email from Universal Music Group, where she included the handwritten words, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs, they always come out laced with a little melancholy.”
Thankfully, only a few weeks on from the album’s announcement, we can finally understand what she means, as Rodrigo has shared her first single alongside a lyric video and a music video.
Her first single is called ‘Drop Dead,’ and despite it having a rather ominous title, it is actually a pretty sweet, love-struck song reminiscent of teenage relationships. Rodrigo’s classic grungy aesthetic is still present, but somewhat subdued, with euphoric synth sounds and lyrics tinged with longing. The song seems to pay homage to her past relationship with Louis Partridge, as seen through lyrics mentioning his star sign and hinting at his role in House of Guinness. However, this is yet to be officially confirmed, and neither the singer’s music video nor lyric video makes a direct reference to Partridge himself.
The music video for ‘Drop Dead’ was filmed in the Palace of Versailles, France, and it features Rodrigo walking through several 17th-century style rooms while wearing a hyper-feminine, coquettish wardrobe. There is a juxtaposition between Rodrigo’s clothing choices and the scenery, as we can see her lounging on a bed in another pastel baby doll dress while the rooms around her have a more classic, old-timey style. The lyric video is slightly different, as it features a paper version of Rodrigo rocking out with a guitar in front of a baby pink background, and the classic typography that we’ve come to know from ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.’ Click here to view it for yourself.
If you’re interested in streaming the single and giving Rodrigo more love before the album comes out, you can give it a listen on platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, YouTube Music, Tidal, and Deezer.
