Swifties all around the world are rejoicing, and it’s no wonder why. On Tuesday, the 26th of August, Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce in a joint Instagram post. The ‘Blank Space’ singer wore a chic striped summer dress and candidly posed with Chiefs' tight-end player Travis Kelce in a five-photo carousel. The carousel has since gained over 29 million likes and, even with comments disabled, fans still have plenty to say and are determined to share their thoughts. Here’s a roundup of my favourite fan theories from Twitter (I’m still calling it that - sorry) and beyond:

The logo on her letters

Whenever someone gets engaged, it seems everyone scrambles to see the ring and give their opinions on it. Whether it’s your Mum or your post lady, everyone wants to give their two cents (even when it’s not warranted). You can’t change some things in life, and so I guess it makes sense why so many Swifties are obsessing over Taylor’s ring.

One thing I will say to those who dislike it is that maybe you don’t like it, but Taylor does, and that’s all that matters. Maybe this is the exact ring she was hoping for all along. Well, according to some Swifties, this is definitely the case, as some are pointing out that her new ring is eerily similar to the logo on the letters, which she addresses to her fans. Just take a look:

Same outfit, same day?

Taylor Swift is a known powerhouse, going from sold-out tour shows to recording studios in the blink of an eye. But even our favourite tortured poet can’t put extra hours in a day, and sometimes a full outfit change isn’t possible before the next big event. Right, tay tay?

With that said, many are pointing out that Taylor’s engagement post features the same hair, makeup, and even watch from the ‘New Heights’ podcast episode she featured in earlier this month. And some are suggesting that the engagement happened just moments after the episode was recorded. Well, isn’t that swift?

A new lucky number

The number 13 has long been associated with Taylor, and that’s all down to the fact that it has been crowned her ‘lucky number’ since the early days of her music. Fans flock to posts/easter eggs containing the number and draw 13s on their hands at her concerts, to show love and support. But, if 13 now becomes significant to two people instead of one, could the number 26 (2 x 13) now hold more weight? Perhaps it could, and that’s why we’re seeing her engagement post on the 26th of August.

The number 26 has also held a very special place in Taylor’s projects, especially her wedding-related projects, such as the I Bet You Think About Me music video, which so aptly features a wedding between Swift and a mystery man.  If you take a look at the white iced red velvet cake in the music video, you might be able to spot the number 26 several times.

A toast to the happy couple

Taylor’s sorrowful and despairing Evermore track ‘Champagne Problems’ has remained a fan favourite with its candid lyrics on a rejected proposal. However, even with many fans feeling heard in the relatable lyrics, Taylor doesn’t seem to be stuck in that era, and champagne tends to represent something more celebratory these days. Don’t believe me? Well, two days ago, Taylor released her tiny bubbles in a champagne vinyl collection, and its flamboyant packaging can be described as less solemn and more ✨showgirl✨.

One Twitter swiftie suggested that Taylor’s recent champagne references reflect a new era where Taylor is celebrating her showgirl successes instead of shying away from them and their ‘champagne problems.’ This new life she is embracing is all about the good, the bad, and the ugly, but with a rose-tinted sheen over it all. Could this be true? Time will tell.

Her prophecy has come true

I have left the best to last because this one warms my heart, and I’d like to end on a high note.

One Twitter swiftie very kindly reminded those scrolling #TSEasterEggs that The Prophecy is Taylor’s 26th song on TTPD, and her engagement post was uploaded on the 26th of August. The relevance in this comes from the fact that The Prophecy is all about asking the universe for the opportunity of finally finding that lifelong love. With an engagement announcement on the 26th, Taylor confirms that her prayers for a lifelong love have been answered and the prophecy has been fulfilled. This connects the song and the announcement, with the number 26 being significant once again.
