The spooky season is nearly upon us. Stores are beginning to stock Halloween-themed decor, cinemas are adding more horror film showings to their rotas and the pumpkin spiced flavour is finding its way into our favourite sweet treats. Summer is dwindling away, making room for the colder Autumn weather and the warmer orange and red tones in the changing leaves. It’s out with the old and in with the new, yet that doesn’t stop us from reminiscing on old times. And on the 6th of September that’s precisely what most of us will be doing, with Tim Burton’s new ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ letting us relive the nostalgia of the classic 1988 ‘Beetlejuice.’
The new ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ sees Lydia’s teenage daughter, Astrid (played by Jenna Ortega), discovering a portal to the afterlife that throws her onto the path of the creepy green-haired ‘Beetlejuice.’ Lydia has to help Astrid escape ‘Beetlejuice’s chaos while navigating her rocky mother-daughter dynamic.
Reprising her role as Lydia, Winona Ryder returns for this movie and stars alongside the talented Jenna Ortega. It’s likely that Jenna was chosen for the role of Astrid because Tim Burton took a liking to her after she portrayed his eerie ‘Wednesday,’ in the Netflix series adaptation of the same name. Her role within said series was well received, prompting a second series and creating a TikTok trend showcasing Wednesday’s unusual dance moves.
Jenna is one to look out for in Hollywood as her acting has seen her going from strength to strength! I’m certainly intrigued to see how she handles this role and I’ll be trying to book a ticket for the cinema soon.
