I’m not the biggest fan of Marvel movies, nor do I pretend to be. But hold your gasp, I can appreciate them for what they are. I can see how they appeal to others. Kickass heroes, the rise-and-fall of an antagonist’s villainy and action that leaves you on the edge of your seat. What’s not to love? I get it. Truly, I do. I just don’t seem to get the same level of excitement that others do.

However, what I have loved lately is the hilarious promotion from the friends and family of the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ cast. It’s made me slowly appreciate Marvel movies more and more, especially as the friends and family in question are some of my all-time favourite people.

Just two days ago, Taylor Swift (the friend of Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds) shared her support in a humorous Instagram story. The story featured a photo of Taylor, Ryan, Blake Lively, Wolverine’s Hugh Jackman, and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ director Shawn Levy. It also had a witty caption that perfectly captured Taylor’s nine-year friendship with Ryan in all its sarcastic glory:

“Over the past few years, I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film. This film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich,” she wrote.

She then finished with the unexpected line “But that’s just Hugh for you,” as a playful jab at Ryan and a nod to their friendly banter.

Fans of Taylor’s know that she has been friends with Ryan and Blake since 2015 and is actually their children's godmother. Her friendship with the pair has long been documented online and her quick-witted digs seem to not only reflect the nature of their relationship, but the personalities of Ryan and Blake as well.

Blake actually took to Instagram herself to congratulate her husband with a very similar approach to Taylor. Five days ago, she tagged Ryan in a funny post about ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s’ millennial references and expressed the pride she had. She stated that the countless intertextual references to her favourite “middle school obsessions,” has never made her feel so seen.

The references she points out are related to the following: Avril Lavigne, Harry Potter, Frozen, Celine Dion, NSYNC, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Summer Balayage, Judy Blune & meta humour.

Blake’s casual marketing of the movie addressed those who lived during the 2000s with a caption reading “my y2k girlies, I should be competitive because @itendswithusmovie is coming out in 3 weeks BUT…,” and ended with a long list of y2k references that she appreciated in her husband’s new movie.

Blake fangirling over the content in some of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s,’ scenes was hilarious to see and might’ve just convinced me to give the movie a watch.

If the new movie is of any interest to you, you can watch it in cinemas RIGHT NOW. Or you can wait a little longer until you can purchase/stream the movie. It’s entirely up to you.
