It seems that every influencer is slowly creeping into the music scene and America’s Got Talent’s Sofie Dossi is no exception. The self-proclaimed “bendy girl,” got her start as an influencer when she showcased her extraordinary skills as a contortionist on the eleventh season of America’s Got Talent. She has since cemented her influencer status with her hilarious YouTube content, budding celeb friendships, and content on contortionism. Yet, her latest achievement has been releasing her new song.
Her new song is called “Self-Sabotage,” and its lyrics allude to a relationship that ends as a result of a guy’s self-destructive behaviour. With lines such as “What have you done?” and “It haunts me that you let me slip away,” Sofie captures how the relationship’s dissolution was no fault of her own but, rather, the fault of her partners.
In the song’s music video, we see Sofie dance in front of a red-filtered scene as she mouths the lyrics. The video was directed by Sofie’s brother (Zak Dossi) who has worked with her on previous projects such as her songs “Fire Alarm,” and “Bunny.”
Sofie’s passion for music has long been evident as she released her debut single in 2022 and has released a further three songs since. Her fourth song, “Self-Sabotage,” seems to follow the same themes of heartbreak and betrayal that were prevalent in her other singles.
Sofie’s musical spark seemed to have ignited after she began producing more and more songs with her brother as a hobby. In an article with People, she explained how she began experimenting with music for a while before her first song’s release and that it was a therapeutic experience for her. We can only imagine that “Self-Sabotage,” is another song that allows her to express the heartbreak that set her musical journey into motion.
However, if you’re unconvinced, I’m sure the song’s promotional material will make you think again. In an Instagram post yesterday, Sofie teased her song with a photo of her and Emmett Benito locking eyes while she held a lighter. The seemingly random post might just confirm that Sofie’s musical “spark,” is still alight and that’s she’s still passionate about her music career. So, what do you think? Do you agree or disagree?
If you’d like to listen to “Self Sabotage,” you can do so on YouTube, Spotify or Apple Music. You can also watch the music video on YouTube.
